Most Memorable Holiday Experience
The Island of Rhodes

When people ask me about my most memorable holiday experience so far, it’s always tough for me to pinpoint my absolute best. This is because they are mostly all great for a variety of reasons and  at different levels.

Some moments that I have experienced while travelling ended up completely blowing me away in way that I never expected. Years later, I still smile at the fond memories.

Was It In My Bucket List?

To begin with, I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of having a bucket list. Some years ago after graduating from university, I decided to fix a physical list.

As a matter of fact, I have a really good time keeping up with my bucket list and  I tend to refer to it on frequent basis. This has forced me to try new things and discover new places. As a result, I have also realized that this is how I want to live my whole life.

The truth of the matter is; My most memorable holiday experience which is the Island of Rhodes in Greece, was not in my bucket list.

How We Chose The Island of Rhodes

They say , “Adventure may hurt you, but monotony will kill you.” I think that there is nothing wrong with routine, per say, except that some routines don’t often accomodate changes.

Similarly to my bucket list,  some adventures were becoming repetitive, to the point that they were no longer  interesting and inspiring.  Based on that, we decide to consult a local tour company.

Indeed they had dozens of travel ideas for every continent prepared. With out a shadow of doubt, we chose a  sunny destination. The only challenge was deciding on somewhere the whole family can enjoy. We finally settled for Island of Rhode in Greece which ended up being our most memorable holiday experience.

Since then, we have been avoiding the bucket list approach to our travels. This because we realized that it can be  limiting and we may ultimately miss out on new experience.

Why I’m I Sharing This?

I started this blog with hopes to share  my experiences and with an aim to inspire others to go out and chase their own bucket list. I made a commitment to tell of my adventures and today I’m going to tell of my most memorable holiday experience  so far.

The bustling andscape, natural beauty, rich history, vast sandy beaches, emerald waters, ancient civilisations, gourmet restaurants and traditional tavernas serving local delicacies among many others, make this Island to be my best  holiday destination so far.

We spent a 2 week holiday in  the Islands of Rhodes and it was an amazing experience. This experience also solidified that travel had to be part of our lives!

Some Tips

  • Be culturally sensitive for example it is better not to visit churches or monasteries in skimpy shorts or tops
  • Avoid peak season
  • Try out the  local wine
  • From here, you can do a day trip to other Greek Islands for example Santorini
  •  Hire a car so that you can explore a little more
