I have been to the city of Bruges several times, but the more I visit this city, the more I keep falling in love with this historical city.
Indeed, this is my favorite city in Belgium.
✦ Why Bruges?
The reason why Bruges should be on your bucket list is that this city is a gem. The local authorities have managed to maintain the architectural designs of the city.
Moreover, the Belgian efficient railway transport makes it easy to access this city from the majority of other cities within Belgium and the neighboring countries.
✦ The Secrets Of Bruges
The city of Bruges is a historical city and at the same time a contemporary one.
Most of the medieval architecture of this city has not been changed. This makes Bruges be one of the most well preserved medieval cities in Europe.
This city is listed on the World Heritage site of UNESCO.
The following are the attractions that you can’t miss out while in this city:
✦ The Market Square In Bruges
It is located in the heart of the city of Bruges.
This area was a medieval commercial center of the city. Today, the square provides a glance at the history of Bruges.
The market square is surrounded by the prominent buildings which include the Belfry Tower, Cloth Hall, and the guild houses.
Today, the guild houses have been converted into restaurants.
✦ The Inner City Experience
There are different ways of exploring the inner city of Bruges. These includes:
✦ Taking a Stroll Around the City of Bruges
This is one of my favorite way of exploring any city in Europe.
Taking a self-guided walking tour through the narrow cobbled streets and the medieval buildings of Bruges is an unforgettable experience.
✦ Boat Ride
A visit to the city of Bruges will be complete, certainly after taking a boat trip on its canal.
This trip allows visitors to enjoy this city from a different angle. It is a nice tour and it is offered in different languages. I would highly recommend this tour as a starting point.
✦ Horse Ride
The horse carriage tour in the historical city of Bruges is a romantic and an ideal way to explore the city. It rides through the heart of the city and all the way, the visitors get to see the canal, historical buildings, and sites.
✦ City Tour Car Ride
The city tour offers a tour that is almost one hour around the city of Bruges. The tour is very informative and gives a great start too, to explore the city afterward.
I would actually recommend all of these tours because each one of them has a great way of experiencing this city from different perspectives. In addition, each tour offers its own relaxing way to get around Bruges.
✦ The Beer Tour
The beer tour in the De Halve Maan Brewery is very interesting.
In this informative tour, the visitors learn the history of the brewery. You also learn how beer drinking has evolved over the years in Belgium.
After the tour, there is also the beer tasting which is quite interesting and something to look forward to, even if you are not a beer drinker.
✦ The Beer Festival
This city has a reputation for beer brewing and cafe culture. It has a long tradition of the Bruges Beer Festival.
This edition happens each year in the early month of February. You can’t miss this out while in this city or it’s surroundings.
There are a lot of breweries that take part in this International Beer Festivals. Indeed, you can sample hundreds of types of beers during the festival.
The locals and the visitors take part in this sampling the epic range of beers in the City of Bruges. There are also events that have lectures, debates, and culinary showcases.
Last but not least, during these festivals, the local restaurants also offer beer-inspired menus.
