A Walking Safari In Crescent Island In Kenya

Crescent Island Game Santuary is located on Lake Naivasha, Kenya in the Great Rift Valley.

The island was formed in 1988, when Lake Naivasha’s water level dropped. Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful game parks in Kenya

How to Get to Crescent Island

Lake Naivasha is a fresh water lake that is located about 95 km north of Nairobi.

Its close proximity to Nairobi and easy access, have made it a hugely attractive place for weekend getaways.

There are quite a number of hotels built around the lake.

Own Experience From the Island

We took a boat trip from the mainland into Lake Naivasha, and this gave us the access to this unique island.

During the boat trip, we viewed different families of hippos at a very close distance.

I was a bit nervous from the presence of the quite a number of hippos in the lake, but are guides are really experienced on how to navigate.

What To Expect From The Island

The shores host abundant bird life and wildlife including pelicans, herds of wildebeests, water bucks, zebras, gazelles, giraffes, buffaloes among many others.

The only thing that was a little bit scary for us, was the pythons but we never got to see one.

Crescent Island has an abundance of animal and plant species.

The island also has wonderful views of the surrounding Naivasha, Mt Longonot, Hells Gate and the distance peaks of the Aberdares.
