Nausicaa National Sea Centre is a great sea life centre in Boulogne, France.
It is located on the Nord-Pas-de-Calais coast, not far away from Belgium and United Kingdom.
Nausicaa National Sea Centre
In a nutshell, this is a sea life centre where science and art meet.
It has a vast array of aquatic life. These includes: all sorts of fish, stingrays,, crabs, sharks, corals, turtles, sea lions, crocodiles, penguins, and last but not least, quite a number of reptiles.
What to Expect From Nausicaa National Sea Centre
The displays and exhibits are well laid out with a nice flow so that even though it is on a very busy day, the visitors can see everything.
The thoughtful way how these have been laid out, really make the difference. Rather than just a procession of tanks, the layout takes the visitors on a walk through different themed habitats.
The exhibits are well numbered with markings to show the visitors which way to go. This ensured that the visitors do not miss out on anything.
There is quite a lot plaques with educative information of ecology and sustainability running throughout, which is in both French and English.
The aquarium covers many levels which have stairs and lifts, so there is no problem getting around.
In one of the themed habitats, there’s a glass floor on the top of a tank, and from here the visitors can watch the sea lions swim underneath it.
I particularly liked the tropical reef with the ability to walk underneath it and put one’s head into a perspex dome to see the aquatic life from the bottom.
The Sea Lion Show
This is a show that is in French language only.
This show is one of the most popular attractions of the aquarium and is perfect for families with children of all ages.
Not only is the show fantastic to watch, but it’s also educational. This is because the trainers shared a lot of interesting facts about the sea lions during the display.
My Best Experience
My favorite experience was to stand on the bridge of a Trawler at sea in a storm and the whole floor moved with to rolling of the waves. It is a great experience.
We then decided to walk down along the wide open sandy beach in front of the aquarium and enjoyed a sandy picnic. Another reason for you to add this in to your bucket list!
A Travel Quote…
