In case this is your first time in Kuala Lumpur, this post will be your guide to this Malaysian capital. The city has a lot of treasures to be experienced and many hidden gems to be explored. Thus, you will enjoy your time here. But like any other experience traveler, I know you will be curious to know what to expect in this Asian country. The following is a list of things that you will come across in Kuala Lumpur:

✦ 1. The Airport

To my surprise, this was one of the most efficient airports that I have ever been into. It is really fast and this is because there are a lot of counters. I have been to an airport where there were a lot of counters but only one or 2 were working. In Kuala Lumpur, this is not the case. They are many of them and they all work and the immigration officers are friendly.

Besides that, the airport is equipped with modern technology, which is impressive.

✦ 2. Walking in Kuala Lumpur

In Europe, it’s common for the locals and the tourists to walk around. This helps people to discover new villages, enjoy panoramic views, discover hidden corners of the cities, and last but not to enjoy the nature walks. In this city, this is what to expect:

✦ I. Use Taxis in Kuala Lumpur

On the contrary, in Kuala Lumpur, walking around is something that is not common. And especially if you are a tourist. To be on the safe side, just get used to the idea of using a taxi to explore the city. Fortunately, they have a nice taxi system and it is super affordable compared to the other parts of the world.

✦ II. The Backpack

Kuala Lumpur

I know this is one of the best friends of any traveler. This is because it gives you the freedom to carry some essentials that you may need for the day in one bag. It is also light and the padded shoulder straps make it easier and more comfortable. Unfortunately, in this city, carrying this kind of bag is not possible. And in case you choose to carry one put it in front of you, and not at the back. This is because there are thugs that use the motorbikes to snatch backpacks. This can spoil your holiday faster than you think. Just be vigilant.

✦ III. Public Transport

Like any other big city, public transport is a hub of pickpocketing. In Kuala Lumpur, this may be in a higher proportion. Especially if you are curious to use the monorail that goes around the city. I would recommend if you decide to use this type of transport then make sure that you don’t have any valuables on you to avoid disappointments. I think that that monorail was a great idea for this city and it is beautiful to watch it move around but the pickpockets have destroyed its credibility.

✦ IV. Traffic

During the pick hours, there is a lot of traffic and you may end up being in the taxi longer than you expected. Therefore, avoid using the taxis or to explore the city during these hours.

✦ 3. Culture in Kuala Lumpur

The vast majority in this country are Muslims, then followed by the Buddhists and then the Christians being the minorities. Like any other country, it’s always good to respect the local culture. For instance, if you visit the mosques and Buddhist temples, be dressed in a long dress and no shorts. And before you travel, as always, try to learn a few words like greetings, to say thank you, or to ask for directions. From my own experience, I know that the locals always appreciate that you try to speak their language.

✦ 4. The Main Language

In the whole of Malaysia, you will be able to communicate with almost everyone in English. The people in this country are pretty friendly from the airport, the reception at the hotel, the cleaning lady, and the security guards. And if you are staying in a hotel, the security guards take a step further to stop the taxi guys looking for customers from bothering you.

✦ 5. Shopping, shopping, and shopping

This is a city where you can go without clothes or accessories but you will go home with more suitcases. There are a lot of beautiful shopping malls that have a lot of shops with all kinds of stuff that are very affordable. Thus, go to this country prepared to shop for yourself and your loved ones.

✦ 6. The Weather

Kuala Lumpur has tropical weather all around the year. But because the whole country is near the water, the climate is humid. Expect to experience sunny days. Thus, this makes it possible to visit this place throughout the year. All in all, wishing you a pleasant stay in this beautiful country!
