Lake Nakuru is one of the many lakes in Kenya. And what makes this lake stand out from others, it is the home of many flamingos. The park around this lake (Lake Nakuru National Park) is ideal for a day safari.

✦ Where is Lake Nakuru Located?

Lake Nakuru is located not far from Nakuru. This is a town that lies in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. It is a 2 and half hours drive from Nairobi and about an hour drive from Naivasha.

✦ The Flamingos at the Lake Nakuru

Recently, the numbers of flamingoes have reduced as compared to as it used to be some years back. This is because the water levels in the lake have risen. But there are still some flamingos and other species of birds to see in the park.

As the jeep gets into this park, you will spot the wild animals right and left. The first animals to spot are the warthogs and zebra which graze on shorelines of Lake Nakuru.

Also, the herds of water buffaloes can be spotted not too far and you can’t get enough to watch the birds perch on their backs to peck and pick out ticks.

The rhinos also graze not far from the lake. This park is one of the parks in Kenya where you can see the white rhinos. These are known to be endangered types of rhinos.

The baboons are in several groups, and you may find them grooming each other or just enjoying mother nature. And the giraffes will be trying to reach the high greenish leaves from the trees.

Last but not least, there is a sight of a waterfall in the park. This is certainly the icing on the cake for your trip.

  • It is a 3 hours drive to the park from Nairobi
  • Keep your distance from the wildlife
  • Always listen to your guide
  • Don’t ask the guide to drive into the areas where this is prohibited
