The Arc de Triomphe is one of the historical monuments in the city of Paris.
It is located at Place de l’Etoille and while on the top, it overlooks one of the famous attractions in the city of Paris: Champs-Elysées.
Napoleon commissioned the Arch in the early 1800s after his great victory in honor of the military achievements of the French armies.
✦ What to Expect
There is a climb of quite a number of steps; almost 300 steps to be precise. What makes it to not an easy climb, its the shape of the staircase.
The climb is well worth it because you get to see the panoramic view of the city of Paris. These views are insanely beautiful, to say the least.
✦ A Panoramic View From The Arc de Triomphe
From the top of this monument, we were able to zoom in and out the Eiffel Tower from here.
We also had a panoramic view of the Avenue Champ-Elysées. This is a street that is great for shoppers who love the designer’s outfits. These include Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Versace, just to mention but a few.
Engraved on the inside and at the top of the Arch, are the sculptures of the warriors, statues, and engravings of the heroes for the soldiers in World War I.
✦ The Eternal Flame at The Arc de Triomphe
In the beginning, this monument was dedicated to soldiers and their different victories until after World war I.
The tomb of an unknown soldier was also placed underneath the arc in the early 1900s. This was a symbol to remember the thousands and thousands of others that were killed while fighting for France. Later, there was also an agreement to add an eternal flame.
